Though, if I hadn't read the description and just downloaded it, I would've ended up with an application that is really just a terminal shell, so that if there's something you don't understand (like why space doesn't drop the block/how to drop it) and you go to preferences or help you just end up with preferences/help for the terminal. Playing bastet can be a painful experience, especially if you usually make "canyons" and wait for the long I-shaped block. It's a very popular, old and quite simple game, so there must be a ton of them, right? Yeah, sorta.Ĭlick it and you get a huge "No screenshot provided" and this description:īastet ("bastard Tetris") is a free clone of Tetris which tries to compute how useful blocks are and gives you the worst possible brick. I opened Gnome Software and searched "tetris". And older folks might want to play Tetris some times and not be accustomed to everything being online nowadays, right? If you have some older parents you don't want to be too much technical support for, you might, like me, have installed Linux on their PC, made the browser and e-mail applications as easy to find as possible, installed a screen sharing tool in case you still need to help them with anything at some point, and told them that if they need anything else they should search for it in the Software application. But I thought I'd have a look in the app store. So, I admit, most people nowadays would probably just search for "tetris" in their web browser. Not to criticize anyone, just a bit of fun :) Since I feel like Tetris is a typical game that even "non-gamers" plays from time to time, and since gaming experience for new Linux users is all the rage these days I thought I'd share my experience. Just a little trip down nostalgia lane, you know. I had a few minutes and felt like trying a game of Tetris again. Proton version: All games tested using Proton GE (except for SOD2).Graphics Processor: AMD RENOIR - GTX 1660Ti.Processors: 16 AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics.Note: SOD2 was running using Proton experimental because the game crashed the last time I tried running it with Proton GE I don't think this can be fixed since there might be some problem with Proton causing low FPS ? Some other games also have this issue but some don't Performance problem: State of Decay 2 for example, in the same area on Window I got 70-80 FPS (Ultra setting) while on Linux I only get ~50FPS (High setting). Note: Had anyone tested wine-wayland ? Since Nvidia has already supported native Wayland I think that game should run better on native Wayland too ? Also, Vsync is on by default on Wayland so the game should not run like ass right ? This problem happened on ALL GAMES tested
